Edelbeak

Edelbeak

Edelbeaks are special, hardened steel beaks for the most extreme placements in thin cracks in all types of rock and frozen turf. They offer reasonable protection and help users progress during technical climbs in demanding alpine terrain. Their sophisticated shape and three sizes make the beaks highly versatile and suitable for placement in icy cracks, frozen turf, or microcracks. They can also grip the smallest ledges as hooks. The cut-outs on the head and shaft reduce the weight while the large, flat back enables the beaks to be hammered in quickly and effortlessly. The Tech Web sling with a Dyneema® core and polyester sheath has a breaking load of 17 kN and enables placement in dihedrals. The second carabiner opening in the head reduces the torsional forces in horizontal placements and makes the beaks easier to stow on the harness or gear loop.

Best Uses:

Edelrid Edelbeaks are specialized, hardened steel piton-like hooks designed for extreme, technical alpine, icy, and aid climbing in thin cracks or frozen turf. They are highly versatile, offering secure protection in cracks too small for cams, and feature lightweight, ergonomic designs with a large hammering surface and durable Dyneema slings.

  • Purpose: Ideal for demanding alpine terrain, frozen cracks, and small fissures where traditional protection is impossible to place.
  • Versatility: Available in different sizes, these beaks work in diverse rock types and can act as hooks on small ledges. The Larger Edelbeak is great additions where alpine top outs have thin placements and frozen earth.
  • Design: Features cut-outs on the head and shaft to minimize weight. The flat back allows for easy, fast hammering, while additional protrusions simplify removal.
  • Carabiner System: Includes a Tech Web sling (Dyneema® core/polyester sheath) with a 15-17 kN breaking load. A second, upper carabiner opening reduces torsional forces in horizontal placements
